I started this afghan with a stitch used mostly in thread crochet.  It allowed me to dc the first row without a chain stitch foundation.  Because I'm not sure what it's called I call it the base double crochet (bdc)

Panel

make 6 

Row 1.  With dark teal ch 3, tr in third ch from hook, bdc 73x. Fasten off weave in the end.

Rnd 2.   With light teal attach in the ch2 space at the beginning of row1 (ch2, 2dc) in same space, 3dc in tr, dc across, 3dc in last bdc, 2dc on the space between the last two st, 3dc in bottom of the last bdc, dc across, 3dc in the bottom of the tr, sl st to the first dc.   Fasten off weave in the end.

Rnd 3.  With light purple attach yarn to the first dc of the last 3 dc in the previos rnd, 2dc in the next 7 st, dc across to 3 dc in the same st, 2dc in next 7 st, sl st to the first dc.   Fasten off weave in the end.

Rnd 4.   With dark purple attach yarn to the first stitch in rnd 3, ( 2dc in next st, dc in next st) 7x, dc across to 2dc in the same st, ( 2dc in next st, dc in next st) 7x, sl st to the first dc.

Rnd 5.   sc in each st around, sl st to the first dc.  Before cutting the yarn messure 2 1/2 x the length of the afghan.  You will use this to sew the panels together.

Thread the needle and whip stitch the panels together.
